Recently, the Beijing Municipal Government and the 29th Olympic Games Organizing Committee announced the "Beijing Olympic Action Plan."
In the “Planningâ€, the construction of Olympic venues and related facilities is as follows: The Olympic Games plans to use 37 venues, including 32 in Beijing and 5 in Beijing. Of the 32 in Beijing, 19 were newly built and 13 were rebuilt and expanded. In addition, 59 training venues will be reconstructed and supporting the construction of special facilities for the Paralympic Games.
In the venue construction, a large number of construction machinery, road construction machinery, lifting and transportation lifting equipment will be required. For urban traffic construction, it will require a large number of construction machinery, construction machinery, urban rail transportation equipment, road construction machinery, parking facilities and intelligent traffic management equipment.
The "Planning" proposes that with the goal of being convenient, safe, orderly, and economical and environmentally friendly, the modernization process of Beijing's traffic construction and management shall be fully promoted. In the future, Beijing will expedite the construction of rail transit, urban roads, highways, and expansion of the Capital Airport. It will form a modern transportation system with public transportation networks as the mainstay, urban rapid rail transit as the backbone, and developed external transportation systems. Beijing's social economy and urban development provide sufficient traffic conditions to provide the Olympic Games with a first-class urban traffic environment.
Urban Rail Transit: Focusing on the construction of urban rail transit, we will construct Beijing Urban Light Rail, Metro Ba Tong Line, Metro Line 5, Metro Line 4, Metro Olympic Line, Dongzhimen to Capital Airport Express Rail Transit and other projects. By 2008, the city will strive to add 148.5 kilometers of rail transit lines with a total mileage of 202 kilometers, and the proportion of subways in urban passenger traffic will reach around 10%.
Highways: The construction of highways such as the Fifth Ring Road, the Sixth Ring Road, and Jingmi Road and the construction of a number of primary and secondary road projects have been completed. By 2008, the city's highway mileage will reach 718 kilometers, highway traffic mileage will be 14,700 kilometers, and highway network density will reach 87.3 kilometers/square kilometers.
Urban roads: Strengthen the construction of urban road networks, speed up the improvement of fast trunk road systems that consist of loops, channel lines, and tie lines; combine the reconstruction of old cities to increase the density of urban road networks. By 2007, 318 kilometers of new and renovated urban roads will be built.
Civil Aviation: To build a large-scale comprehensive airport with the dual functions of international and domestic hubs, expand the Capital International Airport to meet the needs of the Olympic Games and social development.
