
Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. ranked 145th in terms of operating income of USD 55.7 billion, which was 37 places higher than the previous year. SAIC ranked 151st in terms of operating income of 54.2 billion U.S. dollars, which was 72 places higher than the previous year. FAW ranked 197th in terms of operating income of $43.4 billion, which is a 61-point improvement over the previous year. China South Industries Group Corporation (the parent company of Changan Automobile Group) ranked 227th in terms of operating revenue of 38 billion US dollars, up 48 points from the previous year.
Therefore, there are four car companies in China that are shortlisted in the top 500. Japan has a total of six car companies from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Mazda and Mitsubishi. The United States has GM, Ford and Chrysler three car companies short-listed. Germany has two car companies, Volkswagen and Daimler, short-listed.
As the rankings went up, Dongfeng and SAIC entered the ninth and tenth places in the global automotive industry. FAW was ranked 12th and China Southern Automobile Industry Group was ranked 14th. Dongfeng's operating revenue is equivalent to 25% of Toyota Motor, 33% of Volkswagen, and 41% of GM. In the 2011 Fortune 500 list, US retail giant Wal-Mart again topped the list. A total of 61 companies in mainland China entered the list, an increase of 15 over the previous year.
