Fudan Develops New Catalyst for 1,4-butanediol

The catalyst development project for the hydrogenation of dimethyl maleate to 1,4-butanediol and tetrahydrofuran, completed by Fudan University, has recently passed the results appraisal organized by the Ministry of Education. The expert appraisal committee chaired by Yuan Yukang as academician believes that the catalyst developed in this project is simple in preparation process, high in selectivity, stable in performance, and can simplify the hydrogenation process and has industrial application value. It is suggested that both sides of the cooperation continue their vigorous cooperation and promote the industrialization of this achievement.

It is understood that the project was completed by cooperation between the Institute of Surface Chemistry and the Shanghai Coking Company of Fudan University. In order to achieve industrialization, the project team systematically studied the preparation process and performance of the catalyst, and completed the 300-hour and 1000-hour catalyst life test in the laboratory, and completed it on a 150-millimeter-millimeter-volume reactor at Shanghai Coking Company. 1000 hours pilot test. Finally, the project team completed a 3000-hour side-line life test on the imported equipment. The catalyst's selectivity and longevity all reached the level of the same international catalysts.

According to reports, the catalyst can be prepared not only in the laboratory using selected reagents, but also in small batch production using industrial raw materials at the factory, laying the foundation for the industrialization of the results.
