Recently, ME Solutions (MESAB) of Sweden announced that it has received orders to install the Alfa Laval Pureballast system for two new cruise ships and two modified ships.
One of the new cruise ships is being built at JJ Sietas in Hamburg, Germany, and Alfa Laval authorized MESAB to install the integrated PB250 module for the ship. Designed and built by MESAB, the module is housed in a 20-foot container that can be connected to the ship's system via electricity and piping, reducing installation costs, design time, and transportation costs for the shipyard. It functions like the Alfalaval PureBallast 2.0 system. The same PB250 module will also be installed by Alfa Laval authorized MESAB to a cruise ship under construction at the STX French shipyard.
The system will be installed in the pump room of the vessel. All pipelines are GRE-type pipelines and are expected to be completed by January 2012. MESAB will complete the entire turnkey project on behalf of Alfa Laval Nordic, including design, classification, project management, integration with ship systems, installation and more.
