·Recalling frequent car safety into a car enterprise development worry

According to German media reports, more and more cars are recalled by manufacturers, most of which are due to defects in car safety. Last year, the recall rate reached a new high, and the lack of quality in the safety of automobiles has become a worry for the long-term development of the automobile industry.
The increasingly frequent recalls in the automotive industry are not only the scandals of car companies, but also the risks facing the entire automotive industry. According to Stefan Bratzel, a researcher at the German Automotive Management Center, last year, the United States recalled 20.5 million vehicles, an increase of 5 million vehicles over the previous year, involving a total of 16 car companies. The ratio of recalls to new car sales has reached 131%. “The highest proportion of recalls is in Korean and Japanese car companies, with the highest proportion reaching 263%, and the German BMW company is also among the best,” Bratzel said.
In 2013, the Hyundai Enterprise Group's car recall rate topped the list with 263%, and its most frequent problem was the brake light failure. The Fiat-Chrysler Group is in second place, and the Jeep brand models (which include some older models) have undergone nine large-scale recalls in 2013 for various reasons, but they are all safety hazards. Toyota, which recalled 5 million vehicles a year, ranked third with a recall rate of 237%. The main problem is the airbag hazard. The German car, which is always known for its quality, represents BMW, and recalled 870,000 vehicles in the United States last year, far exceeding its total sales in the United States that year. "The main reason is power failure," Bratzel said.
Among all the car companies, the US General Ford and the German Volkswagen Mercedes-Benz recall rate are below average, and Mercedes-Benz is the lowest recalled car with 0.2%. "They (the Mercedes-Benz) only recalled 290 Mercedes-Benz S-Classes with minor problems," Bratzel said.
The rising recall rate has become an industry hazard. In the past five years, the US market has recalled 85.5 million vehicles, 28% more than the total sales in the US market in the same period. “This trend indicates that car quality has become an important issue in the industry, which is not only related to the cost increase caused by the recall, but also more likely to directly damage the car brand image,” Bratzel said.
For more and more frequent car recalls, the German Automotive Management Center summarizes the following five reasons:
1 The technical complexity of automobiles has been increasing, leading to an increase in the error in the production process of automobiles. 2 The competition is becoming more and more fierce, the speed of automobile R&D and production is getting faster and faster, and there is not enough time for trial demonstration;
3 Due to the so-called “value transfer” concept, 75% of the investment in automobile R&D is borne by the supplier, and the control of the quality of the OEM is weakened;
4 Increasing cost pressures determine the risk of product quality control;
5 In order to reduce costs, automobile production tends to be on the same platform and versatility. Once problems arise, the spread will increase.
