(4) Linear Networks

In FCS, the most common form of network topology is a bus, but there is no pure linear network topology in Ethernet. The advantages of the linear network structure are very prominent, such as the most cost-saving wiring, simple network installation, and easy replacement of equipment. PROFINet achieves a linear network structure with the help of switches integrated in various devices. However, compared to PROFIBUS, when a device in the PROFINet linear structure is powered off, the entire back-end network is back, so it is not suitable for use in industrial control systems where each site requires separate breakpoint maintenance.
