Electronic control technology: the core of the engine Yuchai made
As emission standards continue to escalate, people's demand for fuel economy is getting higher and higher, and people are increasingly demanding precise control of the engine. With the development of electronic technology, the engine electronic control technology has gradually matured, becoming one of the engine's core technologies.
On the opening day of technology, Dr. Feng Jing, the vice president of the Yuchai Engineering Research Institute, introduced Yuchai's electronic control technology.
It was originally back in 1999 that Yuchai had already started research on engine electronic control technology. As early as in the last century, the electronic control technology of the engine entered the beginning of China's commercial vehicle diesel engine field. The related technology was basically monopolized by foreign suppliers. In order to protect its own maximum benefit, foreign suppliers set a series of restrictions on domestic engine companies. The domestic engine companies cannot make use of their core technologies. All applications, matching, and calibration related to the electronic control technology have to rely on foreign suppliers and pay a huge amount of development expenses.
Since 1999, in addition to developing electronically controlled engine products, Yuchai has also devoted itself to the research of electronic control system integration technology, electronically controlled engine calibration technology, and electronic control engine application matching technology, through independent exploration and cooperation with universities and institutions. Exploring and other methods, took the lead in mastering the integrated technology, calibration technology, and application matching technology of electronically controlled engines, breaking the technology monopoly of foreign suppliers at one stroke, and reducing the original 10 million-level development costs to millions, 100,000, or even free of charge.
With the deepening of the research on electronic control technology, Yuchai has not been satisfied with the research on the calibration technology and application matching technology of electronically controlled engines, and began to study controllers, especially the development of controller software. The controller is the core of the electronic control system and is equivalent to the command system of the electronic control system. Having mastered the control strategy, it has the autonomy of the electronic control system matching and application.
In addition, in the research of the electronic control system integration technology, Yuchai is no longer simply applying the packaging scheme provided by the supplier to the engine, and starts the design and selection of independent components, and independently integrates the development of the entire system. The selection of technical solutions and system components has full discourse power, decision-making power and initiative.

Combustion and Performance Development: Creating the Most Reliable and Fuel-efficient Products
Dr. Lin Tiejian, who is responsible for Yuchai’s combustion and performance development, is Yuchai’s “Gao Shuaifuâ€. The engine combustion and performance development has been researched for many years. He said that combustion and performance development is one of the engine's most fundamental core technologies. It is directly related to the engine's power, fuel consumption, reliability, and durability, which means that it is the closest to the customer.
Dr. Lin said that at present, after Europe and North America have achieved technological breakthroughs to meet Euro VI and US 2010 emission regulations respectively, they have made reducing fuel consumption the most important development goal.
To achieve low fuel consumption and low emissions, it is necessary to comprehensively optimize the fuel injection system, the intake system, the booster system, the combustion chamber, and the in-cylinder flow organization. Among them, a large number of tests and developments must be carried out. Therefore, it is very unscientific to say that Chinese engine companies are simply imitations of foreign countries.

Dr. Lin introduced that in order to reduce the fuel consumption of the vehicle, in fact, in the engine design, it is necessary to reduce the engine's own friction loss, reduce the weight of the entire machine, but also to strengthen the development of the combustion system, when matching with the vehicle, pay attention to reduce the intake Air resistance, optimizing the matching of power systems such as gearboxes, rear axles, and tires.
In order to reduce the fuel consumption of the entire vehicle and improve the reliability of the engine, Yuchai has developed different products for different markets. Such as passenger car engine, construction machinery engine, etc., which all reflect the Yuchai in the combustion and performance development.
In view of the future development, Dr. Lin said that at present, the highest thermal efficiency level of the applied diesel engine is basically maintained at 43~45%, and the future goal is to increase it to 50%~55%.
Of course, the development of engine technology is an all-round development of various technologies. Dr. Lin said that we must have advanced combustion systems, booster and air management, reduction of frictional resistance, optimization of engine accessories, optimization of powertrain matching, etc. These Yuchai are already working to achieve more core technology.
Emission Control: The Last Level of Engine Emissions
Dr. Lin Tiegan introduced combustion and performance development. He mentioned that when the engine itself is developed, particulate matter must be reduced to meet current emission regulations, but in general, nitrogen oxides will increase accordingly. In order to control the emission of nitrogen oxides, it is necessary to implement emission control.
Regarding emissions, Dr. Tao Zemin said that current diesel emissions consist mainly of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. After the implementation of Euro IV emission regulations, it is necessary to use post-treatment systems to make emissions comply with national standards. In order to make these harmful substances unable to be discharged into the air, there are many post-treatment systems in the industry including SCR (selective reduction catalyst), DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst), GOC (gas oxidation catalyst), POC (particle oxidation catalyst) ), DPF (particle trap).

The 4th stage of the country mainly applies the SCR or DOC+POC technical route in the post-processing system. The DPF's technical route will be applied to the later Beijing 5 and Euro VI emission regulations.

Dr. Tao used the YC6J (formerly 6105) engine to introduce Yuchai’s efforts in applied technology. In country 0, YC6J naturally inhales and uses type A oil pump. In Phase 1, Yuchai applied a supercharger to increase the injection pressure. In the second stage of the country, medium-cooled booster technology was used, and the injection pressure was further increased. In the third stage of the country, four-valve technology and electronic control systems were used to make the combustion more accurate and effective. In the fourth stage of the country, the SCR system was added. In the fifth stage of the country, the efficiency of the SCR was higher. The DPF system was added to the Beijing 5 and Euro VI phases.
At each stage of the implementation of different emission regulations, Yuchai is the first to release diesel engines that meet the latest emission regulations and standards, indicating Yuchai’s leading position in the industry in emission control technologies. Dr. Tao also said that Yuchai has solved many problems in the marketization of Euro VI diesel engines, such as fuel consumption and durability.
