Mazda’s Chuangchi Blue Sky engine technology failed to drive the company’s sales in China to continue to grow in December, with deliveries down 8% to 21,802 units compared to the same period last year.
This is the second consecutive month of Mazda sales in China.
"The competition in the Chinese auto market in November and December of 2014 was extremely fierce, so the sales in a single month decreased compared with the same period last year," said Makoto (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd.
At the end of 2013 and early 2014, Mazda began selling the Mazda CX-5, Mazda 6 Atz and Mazda 3 Angkeira with its Chuangchi blue sky direct injection engine.
Thanks to strong demand for these three models, Mazda’s sales in China in the first half of last year soared by 20%. But after entering the second half of 2014, the company began to lose momentum.
At the end of 2014, Mazda’s annual sales in China increased by 13% to 211,013 units.
The company did not disclose the sales of its individual models sold in China last year.
